The Saginaw Jaycees Foundation
In 1989 the Saginaw Jaycees formed the Saginaw Jaycees Foundation. The reasoning which led to the formation of the foundation was three-fold.

First and foremost, the purpose of the Saginaw Jaycee Foundation is to grant scholarships for higher education. Each year, the foundation gives up to four scholarships to local people endeavoring to improve their education level. Three of those scholarships are given to Seniors graduating from Saginaw County high schools, attending a college or university located in Saginaw County. The fourth is given to a student currently enrolled at Delta Community College.

The Jaycees realized the importance of keeping talent from the community, in the community. There was (and is) a huge problem with people leaving the area. Often, especially with youth preparing to go to college, there is an idea that they need to go far away to receive a quality education. This is preposterous. While there are great schools all over the world, there are also wonderful institutions of higher education right here in Saginaw County. If a student attends a school in Saginaw County, they are more likely to look for employment here post-graduation, and thus more likely to become a contributing member of the community.

The scholarship application is distributed to schools, guidance counselors, churches, youth organizations, etc throughout the county. Applications are typically due by April 30. After all the applications are received, a selection committee made up of Saginaw Jaycees is formed to review the applicants and choose the recipients. Traditionally, once awarded, the recipients are invited to a chapter meeting to receive the scholarship and introduce themselves.

Second, the foundation offers the chapter a unique ability to fund large-scale projects. With a well developed purpose for funds, and clear repayment plan, the chapter is able to borrow capital at a low or no interest loan from the foundation. This method of finance has allowed for projects such as building and donating the playground at Imerman Park.

Third, By forming a foundation, the Saginaw Jaycees name is ensured to live on in this community even if the chapter should cease to exist. Over the years, membership has waxed and weaned. While it is our intention to keep the Saginaw Jaycees operational for as long as an organization of this nature is needed in Saginaw, we are cognizant of the possibility that the chapter may one day cease.
Scholarship Application
The scholarship application has two parts. The first is an application for the student to fill out, outlining their achievements and goals. The second is a recommendation letter for a teacher, employer, or other adult to fill out. The recommendation letter should be from an adult who knows the student well, and is not a family member.
2019/2020 scholarship applications have not been released.
